About the Author Joe Simon, after creating Captain America, was appointed the first editor-in-chief of Timely comics, the company that would become Marvel Comics. He would continue to create other icons of popular culture on his own and with collaborator Jack Kirby, including Fighting American, The Boy Commandos, romance comics, and the Fly. Jim Simon is a published author of fiction and nonfiction books. Jim's writings on comic book history have been published in books by Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Titan Publishing, and Abrams ComicArts.
